American Art Collector Artist Focus: Xu Gang
Multicultural backgrounds provide more developmental space for art in society today. Prosperous atmosphere stretched from 20th century seems to make everyone stand in a torrent, waiting for the impact of various desire. I am one of them, witnessing the surging crowd. And I vaguely remember a lot of life pictures: smiles without excessive demands, simple romance, bread and water, but they bring people refreshingly naïve impulse. I quietly recollect those beautiful but fading things, seeing them gone forever.
So I keep distance from everything. It’s not just personal indifference, meanwhile, it’s also my nameless fear and endless aspirations. When I realize that life and success has ruined too much, I think maybe being alone and staying away from mainstream will help me maintain my own personality, therefore, I decide to pursue genuine and simple texture. Instead of emotional release, I calmly focus and reflect on daily life, condense my deep love for life into an art conception, and slowly empty it into my paintings.
I love to wander in nature, keeping an eye on trivial life, searching and creating sceneries appropriate for expressing my feelings. I hope to create touching paintings with my feelings and natural setting happily blended. In my close observing and thinking in nature, a ray of sunshine, a fruit platter, a couple of glittering and translucent wine bottles, a bunch of little flowers, a piece of tablecloth, a corner of table, and the blooming and zealous cockscomb flowers… all come into my favorite theme.
Their pure, fresh, rich and exquisite look constantly attracts me, inspiring my passion. I have to paint the splendid, changing and transitory sunlight, expressing my affection for nature with thick colors and interlaced brush strokes, spreading peace of my soul and vitality of life over my paintings, which bring me wonderful feelings. I guess the most touching light of art comes from ordinary and great spirit of humans themselves.
